Privacy Policy

2. The Hushtide app

When you use the app, no personal data is transmitted to us. There is no registration, no user ID, no tracking, no analytics SDKs and no advertising. The app contains no third-party code and does not connect to any server of ours.

2.1 Data on your device

The following stays on your device: your settings (for example voice, language, mixer, timer and alarm), your listening history (for the “Listened” checkmarks and – if you allow it – for suggestions that suit you) and your ratings (“Like”, “Not for me”). This data never leaves your device. We have no access to it. You can delete your history and undo ratings at any time under “You”. There is no iCloud sync.

2.2 Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases and subscriptions are handled by Apple through your Apple Account. We receive no payment details and learn neither your name nor your payment method. The app only learns from Apple whether Hushtide Plus is active. Apple’s processing is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.

2.3 Language, voice and image packs

German with the voice Zen is included in the app. You download further voices and languages yourself when you want them; a pack with additional images is downloaded by the system in the background after installation. These packs are stored on Apple’s servers (Apple-hosted asset packs) and are downloaded from there. In doing so, Apple processes technically necessary connection data such as your IP address under its own privacy policy. We run no server of our own for this and do not learn who downloads which pack.

2.4 Apple Health

Only if you expressly allow it does Hushtide record the time you listened after a guided session as Mindful Minutes in Apple Health. On iPhone you turn this on under “You”; on Apple Watch the system asks for the same permission after a breathing exercise. Hushtide reads no health data. The entries are stored in Health on your device; we can’t see them. You can withdraw the permission at any time in the app or in Health.

2.5 Notifications and alarm

Hushtide sends no notifications through a server. Only if you choose “Yes, remind me” when starting a free trial does the app schedule a single reminder on your device two days before it ends. The alarm (“Wake up gently”, on iPhone and iPad) uses your device’s alarm function and also stays local. There are no advertising notifications or notifications of any other kind.

2.6 Widgets and Apple Watch

So that the “For you now” widget has something to show, Hushtide stores the title and a small preview image of the suggestion in a folder that only Hushtide and its widget can read. iPhone and Apple Watch tell each other directly what is currently playing so that the watch can control playback. Both stay on your devices.

2.7 No access to microphone, camera, location or contacts

Hushtide uses neither the microphone nor the camera, your location, contacts or photos.

2.8 Messages from within the app

If you send us a request or a question from the app, your mail app opens. The app itself transmits nothing. Section 4 applies to the email.

2.9 What Apple tells us

As the provider, we receive aggregated statistics from Apple, such as the number of downloads and purchases – crash reports and usage information only if you have allowed sharing with app developers in your device settings. This information does not allow us to identify individual people.

3. This website: hosting and server logs

When you open a page, the hosting provider Strato processes technically necessary server log data, in particular IP address, time, requested file, amount of data transferred and browser identifier. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in secure, stable operation and in preventing abuse.

The provider is STRATO AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with it.

Retention period: We do not analyze these logs and do not combine them with other data. They are kept by the hosting provider as part of technical operation and deleted there at regular intervals; we have no influence on the exact period.

This website sets no cookies. No external fonts, statistics services, advertising networks or embedded social media plugins are loaded.

4. Contact by email

If you contact us by email, we process the data you send us in order to handle your request. Depending on the content, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) or (f) GDPR. Please do not send sensitive content that is not needed for your request.

Our mailboxes are hosted by STRATO AG — the same company that hosts this website; its address is given in section 3. It processes the messages on our behalf, based on a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR.

Retention period: We keep your message until your request has been dealt with; after that we delete it unless statutory retention obligations require otherwise.

Third countries: The services we use — hosting and mailboxes at STRATO AG — are provided in Germany; no transfer to third countries takes place. If you write to us from a mailbox with a provider outside the EU, that provider’s own terms apply to its processing; we have no influence on this.

5. No sharing, no ads

We do not sell data, we do not track you, and we do not use advertising networks, analytics services or social media plugins.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have, in particular, the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony (Die Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen), Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany.

Right to object: Where we process data on the basis of a legitimate interest under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR — this concerns the server log data described in section 3 — you have the right to object to this processing at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21(1) GDPR). An informal message to kontakt@kernmedia.de is sufficient.

There is no automated decision-making, including profiling, under Art. 22 GDPR.

To exercise your rights, contact kontakt@kernmedia.de. Because Hushtide has no account and transmits no data to us, we generally hold no data about your use of the app — in that case a request for access will come back empty.

7. Children and young people

The app can be used regardless of age because no data is collected. Purchases go through the Apple Account and are subject to the restrictions and approvals set up there.

8. Changes

We update this policy when the app or this website changes. The “Last updated” date shows which version is current.
